Ten tips for a Happy, Healthy School Year
- Label your child's clothing, backpack, school supplies, lunch box and any money sent in. Be sure to write name on the inside of clothes and backpacks.
- Before getting your child ready for school, check the weather report for the day.
- Make your child's clothes kid friendly. Make sure they are able to able to unfasten buttons, zippers in order to go the bathroom.
- If you drive your child to school, make sure you arrive on time. If your child takes a bus, make sure that he/she gets to the stop on time. If your child is in kindergarten, make sure you are waiting at the bus stop when they get dropped off. If there is nobody is there, the bus will return the child to school.
- A good night's rest is important to learning. A child needs 10-12 hours of sleep each night in elementary school. Establish a bedtime routine. Shut the television and video games. They will only stimulate the brain. Read a book to your child, sing songs and then lights out.
- If you need to speak to your child's teacher, schedule a conference or many teachers use email now.
- Create a routine for homework. Same spot, same time. make sure your child has all the supplies needed to complete the assignment.(pencils, crayons, markers)
- Read all notices and letters that come home in your child's backpack. Make it part of your routine to check your child's backpack and homework folder.
- Remember your child ;earns a great deal from you. If you are anxious about school, they will be too. Try to be positive and enthusiastic and they will follow you!
- Always provide your child with healthy meals and pack a healthy snack each day.
