If at all possible, medications should be taken at home before or after school hours. If it is necessary that medication be administered during school hours, the following procedures must be followed:
1. Written order for medication from your child's doctor must be given to school nurse.
2. If medication is an over the counter medication, written permission from parent/guardian must accompany the medication.
3. All medication must come to school in the original bottle from the pharmacy with label containing student's name and dosage to be administered.
4. Depending on the age of your child, medication must be sent to school with student or delivered by the parent.
5. The nurse will notify parent when more medication is needed at school.
6. All unused medication must be picked up by parent at the end of school year and a new medication form is required for each school year.
For your information:
All inhalers and epipens are kept in the nurse office. The nurse will monitor the use of those inhalers. They will be sent with student during a field trip for emergency use only. The nurse does not attend field trips and therefore any medication required during the school day, will not be given.
Over the counter medication such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, benadryl, cough drops are available at school in case of illness. A consent form will be sent home for parent signature if administered at school.
